Really? "Fast" is a simplistic measure. My Postfix MX is far more
effective at filtering spam than the qmail could ever be. Many of those
rejections take time, checking numerous DNS sources. It's no
significant load on the server to make the client wait for service.

A simple, unpatched qmail should run circles around a filtering
Postfix. But there would be tons of spam coming in, and the machine
will have much more work to do.

Where is the slowdown?

IINM this is what excite.com's Webmail service uses: Postfix in front
of a qmail backend.

I will, eventually. ;) But I'm not having any heartburn from the
