The former is a good suggestion. The latter ... not.

Mr. Senator has had some long sabbaticals in the history of Granite
Canyon, but I believe this one, since 2004/09/13, is the longest ever:
over 8 months so far. The last I looked into his newsgroup, there had
been no word from him in all that time.
Even if they ever do reload the GC nameservers, you can't effectively
control your DNS if it's on GC. Zoneedit is a MUCH better choice all
around: updates via their Web interface happen in real time, and
updates from an external master happen ... eventually. :) (They don't
always respond to notifies, but of course you can set your SOA times
low enough to force the slaves to come to you more often.)
ZE's far from perfect, but the price is right for small users. I have
the capacity to serve my own DNS, but the redundancy of ZE service for
no cost is hard to pass up.

I do it for some friends for free. I even have a Web-based dynamic DNS
service, and the dynamic hostname can be the MX. But I'm not actively
seeking new freeloaders^Wcustomers at this time. :)
