HTML Emails timing out

Hey guys/gals,
    I've recently installed postfix+amavisd-new+spamassassin on a gentoo
virtual server. The problem I'm having is that emails that are sent in
HTML form time out.

Nov 2 06:29:32 l-mail postfix/smtpd[30869]: >
bay107-f5.bay107.hotmail.com[64.4.51.15]: 250 Ok
Nov 2 06:29:32 l-mail postfix/smtpd[30869]: watchdog_pat: 0x80a7518
Nov 2 06:29:32 l-mail postfix/smtpd[30869]: <
bay107-f5.bay107.hotmail.com[64.4.51.15]: DATA
Nov 2 06:29:32 l-mail postfix/smtpd[30869]: >
bay107-f5.bay107.hotmail.com[64.4.51.15]: 354 End data with
<CR><LF>.<CR><LF>

this will continue to reappear until the following message appears

> bay107-f35.bay107.hotmail.com[64.4.51.45]: 421 [$mydomain] Error:
timeout exceeded

The message never gets passed over to amavis-new.

If you could help me that would be great. I had this working properly
under FREEBSD so I'm wondering if I missed something being a total
novice at gentoo.

Cheers
