bounced messages to root

Dear all,
When I check the mail queue and logfile of postfix, sometimes
I find that there are quite a lot of emails sent to user root. Since
we use ldap to store user information, there is not such a user
root in our directory server. I don't know how these emails
come from, but I have a feeling that it may look like this:
a mail is bounced back to root (default), but postfix cannot
find this user in ldap, so it bounces the mail again to root,
and this goes on. I don't know whether my reasoning is
right, but could somebody clarify me?
 Your help is appreciated.
 Alex
