Yes, because the IPv6 patch in both the unofficial 2.1.x patches and the
official 2.2.x code also changes how Postfix uses IPv4, and the 2.1.x code
is often not entirely correct. Either run an unpatched (by your vendor)
2.1.x from Wietse, or run a 2.2.x (with fewer sometimes questionable
vendor patches).

It won't if your OS does not have it, and even if the OS does support
IPv6 you can configure Postfix 2.2 and later explicitly to not use it:

    inet_protocols = ipv4

That may require using a version of Postfix that is known to be built
correctly and consistently.
