The Postfix sendmail(1) program is only used for local mail submission.
SMTP submission does not require a working sendmail(1).

Clearly the zero length executable is in no position to complain. Any
logging of the problem is up to the non-Postfix applications that
invoke /usr/sbin/sendmail.
