For something like that, yep, you'd be fairly safe, in that you'd be
unlikely to make a change that shut the system down or kept you from making
additional changes, etc.

I do something not totally dissimilar, in that mail sent from interal users
to external ones results in automatic whitelisting of the external user's
address. I've often thought of being able to expand this to "mail in"
whitelisting as you do it, but I'm out of stock on round tuits at the
moment.
