Sending all email destined for root to external email address

Hi All,

I want all root messages to simply go to an external email address. To
do this, I updated the /etc/aliases file and added the following entry
at the end:
root: myemailsomedomain.com

Then I ran newaliases, then stopped and restarted postfix. But when I
locally sent a test email to root, the message ended up in root's local
mailbox, and was not sent to myemailsomedomain.com. I thought the
/etc/aliases file could have email address on the RHS. Am I
misunderstanding something?

I am using Postfix 2:2.2.8-1.2, on Fedora Core 5.
