Problem checking my email

Hi I just setup Postfix using Sendmail and it sends
emails out locally fine using SendMail but when I try
and check my emails using KMail or Evolution I get
error that /var/mail/username is not a valid mailbox
or I do not have the proper permissions. I can type
mail at command prompt and read them fine. What am I
doing wrong?
