Bounces are very rare - usually less than one a month and caused by a
user being over quota or postfix accepting mail for a recipient listed
in /etc/passwd which doesn't have an account with cyrus.

Definitely not - most rejects are handled during the connection phase.
I've additionally got ClamAV as a content filter which silently kills
any viruses it may find.

I can deliver directly to most, but a few cause a problem. Being on a
dynamic IP range I've chosen to deliver through my ISP.

They've got more chance of getting through if I deliver them direct
rather than through my ISP which will kill them instantly.
It would be easier if there was a postfix equivalent of the cyrus smmapd
utility - it basically reports via tcp whether a mailbox exists and
whether it is unavailable due to being over quota.
It's no drama - I'll eventually move over to LDAP and use a policy
service for over quota conditions. But, at this stage, my site is
definitely in the hobby category and I can't justify spending the time
to set it up for negligible benefit.
Take care,
Ben
