I have a strange case where Spamc seems to drop an email
message(completely gone....*poof*) - I was wondering if anyone had run
across this before and what good strategies there are to avoid spamc
vanishing the email(perhaps a shell script wrapper to do the calling? I
also recently ran across a single incident of a timeout occuring, so if
there is a way to force a timeout of the exec in the shell script and
then continue processing that would be good)

Spamassassin is version 3.1.8 (I was unable to get 3.2 to run on the system)

Postfix is version 2.4.1

My spamassasin invocation line from master.cf is
spamassassin unix - n n - - pipe
flags=Rq user=nobody argv=/usr/local/bin/spamc -t 30 -U
/var/run/spamd.sock -u ${recipient} -e
/usr/sbin/sendmail -oi -f ${sender} ${recipient}

 From what I can see in the log, the email comes in, it gets routed to
spamc, spamc connects to spamd, spamd declares the mail clean, and then
nothing.

I notice that NORMALLY in the logfile, following a SpamAssasin run(I
don't reject anything, tag only) I'll see an event processed from
pickup, such as:
