Hello all,
I've done some searching around archives and such, and I fully understand
what the "too many errors after RSET" log entry means, but I'm having
trouble understanding why it's happenening to a customer of ours.
Relevant lines in our config are:
smtpd_junk_command_limit = 100
smtpd_hard_error_limit = 20
He uses some kind of mail merge in Outlook that send email to a little
over 300 people. However, in Outlook, this appears as 300+ messages in
the outbox after the mail merge, so I know it's not 2 or 3 emails with 100
recipients apiece.
Anyhow, sure enough, 120 (junk_command + hard_error limits) lines into the
logging, he gets disconnected, and then immediately reconnects. The 120
messages seem to get tossed.
I guess my question is this... Does anyone know if this is some kind of
oddball behavior of Outlook's? Does it issue an RSET after every finished
DATA statement? Or is this kind of behavior pretty standard across MUAs
that are sending hundreds of emails? And if so, how do other postfix
administrators deal with this issue, whether that be telling the user to
do things differently, settings some ungodly high limit on junk_command,
or something else?
Thanks,
Rick
