I normally use mc's editor (as it is my main utility (and I never learned
vi))
so... is this the 'likely scenario':
at some time in the past, I edited master.cf, didn't leave trailing newline;
the current upgrade's master.cf edit stuffed up as a result of that
long-forgotten edit ?
and, a lesson to be learned, use vi OR always leave trailing newline when
hand editing config files ?
