Let me rephrase it: make sure you don't reply when there is a fair
chance that it is spam. If in (concrete, not theoritical) doubt,
refrain. The least you can do is to not respond when your content filter
says it is spam (with spamassassin, if the score is >= 5, then you
should not respond, even if you delivery/tagging threshold is 17.
because the auto-response recipient does not care about your thresholds).

Also, one should avoid responding to malformed messages. if the sending
site has a broken mail infrastructure, they may have other broken things
(such as broken autoresponders which will cause a loop. and don't say I
keep a list of people I respond to. ratware developpers are very creative).
