Assuming you mean an alias with 5,000 mail address entries, then without
wishing to be facetious, this appears to me to be what mailing list
software is for. Perhaps you should consider using that (see majordomo,
mailman etc.). Without that, every undeliverable bounce, vacation message
and so forth will get routed to your sender. And a pair of misconfigured
vacation bounces will result in a mail loop.
