Thank you! disable_mime_output_conversion did the trick. Don't know how
I missed the difference in Content-Transfer-Encoding.

Although I still don't understand why there's a difference between the
the two postfix instances. I wasn't able to find any differences in the
configuration, so some default setting's value must have changed or
there was a change in behavior.

Also, do I understand correctly that the proper solution should be for
the LMTP services to announce "250 8BITMIME"?
