I'm sorry if I wasn't clear, or misunderstood. I thought I was
following directions. The example has the chroot column in bold,
but not the private column. It seems to be referring to THAT column.

All/every column?! Or all entries in the chroot column? I did do
the latter.

Yes, I know. I'm a newbie to postfix, relative newbie to Linux, but
I've been playing with computers since an IBM-1620, four decades ago.
