# telnet sbcmx1.prodigy.net 25
Trying 207.115.21.20...
Connected to sbcmx1.prodigy.net.

Connection closed by foreign host.
there is no "greet pause" (quick response).
if your server is on a residential host, or if it uses generic rDNS, or
if it has broken rDNS setup, then that would explain the problem.
same is if you have a borken firewall/proxy/... in the path, although
this would break a lot of other connections.
