I thought giving it:
relay_host = smtp.xprt.net
did that.

I can't get Thunderbird to run on that RHL-6.1 system. ;-)

Ah! OK, I'll try that. Somehow that escaped my notice. Maybe I saw
it, but had so many other config questions I didn't focus on it.

I think it probably will. Its ppp doesn't use pap/chap!
