Necessary steps improving the reachability of a bulk mailing

Hello,

I have a separate server dedicated to sending our opt-in newsletter. In the
recent months I am starting to realize that delivery is not going very smooth.
I would like to improve my mail delivery chances. I already have explicit SPF
records on the server in question, but it seems I need to do more. I have
heard there are various sender registration systems, where one could whitelist
his IP. Is there a comprehensive list of things one should take to solve
problems similar to mine?
