New Offerings at SANSFIRE 2005 in Atlanta, June 12-18, 2005

From: The SANS Institute (sanssans.org)
Date: Sun May 22 2005 - 21:35:20 CDT

Dear Colleagues,

SANFIRE 2005 in Atlanta, Georgia is right around the corner! The late
registration fee will begin to apply on Wednesday, May 26. If you
haven't done so already, mark your calendars for June 12-18, 2005 so that
you can attend the best security training on earth!

You have probably read the news stories about the theft of source code
for Cisco's IOS or the numerous identify theft problems with LexisNexis
Inc. and others. Guess what? To avoid these kinds of disasters, you
need a workforce that can do more than write security policy. You need
skilled, trained security professionals with pragmatic, technical
skills. And that is what SANS training is all about.

The bottom line is that you can't afford to miss this training! "The
SANS course stands apart among other courses because it gives a
real-world perspective and very current information. I have learned
things today that I can go back and implement right away," says Ragini
Ramalingam of Seagate Technology.

We are pleased to announce there will be three brand new evening courses
that make their debut at SANFIRE 2005. Here are the details on each:

* Project Management Approach to Security Vulnerability Assessments ~
June 16-17, 2005: 6:00-9:00 pm
As more and more security vulnerability assessments are being performed,
the need for a structured method to perform them becomes apparent.
Project management provides methods that are well understood approaches
to activities that include vulnerability assessments. We'll show how
using project management techniques can make vulnerability assessments
structured and repeatable. This course is ideal for anyone who manages
or conducts vulnerability assessments and wants to reduce the cost,
time, and quality uncertainties or their activities. This course is
being offered at an introductory price of $25 for registered attendees.

* Stay Sharp First Responder - Win32 ~ June 15, 2005: 6:00-10:00 pm
This is a four-hour course that prepares you to deal hands-on with
viruses, Trojans, and backdoors that get past your defenses and infect
your organization's Windows systems. This Stay Sharp class gives you a
fundamental understanding of the SANS Six Steps for Incident Handling,
a brief introduction in forensics, and in-depth discussion on applying
the Six Steps on the Windows platform. Complimentary attendance is
available for Security 503, 505, or 508 students; simply check the box
for "First Responder - Win32" when you register. If you are attending
another track, you may still register to reserve your seat for an

* Stay Sharp Google Hacking & Defense ~ June 17, 2005: 6:00-9:00 pm
This three-hour Stay Sharp course will introduce you to some common
techniques used by Google hackers, demonstrate a number of typical
security exposures that Google uncovers, and aims to set you on the path
of discovery if Google Hacking is to be part of your security evaluation
toolkit! At the end of the class, you should have a solid toolkit of
techniques and tips that you can take back to your organizations and use
to uncover unintended information disclosures, close common holes in web
servers and Internet connected devices, and clean up the exposures you
discover. Attendance is free for the first 30 registrations, so please
act quickly if you wish to attend! (www.sans.org/sansfire2005/ghd.php)

Please register to reserve your seat and ensure you get a printed book.
Otherwise, books are available on a first come first serve basis.
