SANS Presents Four New SANSHome Sessions for Spring 2006

From: The SANS Institute (sanssans.org)
Date: Tue Feb 21 2006 - 18:54:36 CST

Dear Security Express,

We are pleased to announce that four new SANSHome sessions have been
scheduled for Spring 2006:

 * AUD522-200603: SANS(R) +S(TM) Training for the ISACA(R) CISA(R) Certification Exam
    - March 23, 2006
 * SEC506-200604: Securing Unix/Linux - April 19, 2006
 * SEC508-200604: System Forensics, Investigation & Response - April 19, 2006
 * SEC601-200606: Reverse Engineering Malware - Hands On - June 6, 2006

SANSHome delivers the same first-class training presented at live SANS
events with the added bonus of meeting your needs for flexibility,
affordability and up-to-date education in a setting convenient for you!
All of our SANSHome classes will "meet" once a week through webcasts
using Elluminate Live!TM, a collaboration of real-time, online tools
that really makes you feel like we are all in the classroom together!
Don't worry if you have to miss a webcast because all sessions are
recorded and archived for you to access at a later time.

As information security professionals and your SANSHome instructors,
we know the value of this course material in the real world. You will
find the SANS promise really is true - you will be able to apply what
you learn in class as soon as you return to the office. Allow each of
us to explain how this is true of the classes we will teach:

AUD522-200603: SANS(R) +S(TM) Training for the ISACA(R) CISA(R) Certification Exam
James Tarala, Course Instructor:
"As many of you know, regulations, accreditation, auditing, and
assurance have all been major topics on the security landscape over
the past few years. Discussions about acronyms such as GLBA, HIPAA,
SOX, DITSCAP, and others have become commonplace in boardrooms and
server rooms. It's no longer acceptable for an organization to simply
understand the technical concepts of securing information assets.
Instead it is becoming more and more apparent that auditors, people
who understand the audit process, and individuals willing to be hands
on in the implementation of these regulations are needed to ensure
that organizations are truly compliant with these guidelines. The
combination of this SANS training program along with the CISA
certification will prove to your employer that you can fill this vital
  role.

"I hope that you will attend the upcoming SANSHOME review course. It
was written specifically with busy professionals in mind, allowing you
the flexibility to prepare for the exam while still tending to the
requirements of everyday life. Our time together during this course
will get you ready for the exam while at the same time showing how the
information in the six domains really applies to the challenges you
encounter in everyday life. In addition to the course books, you will
receive a copy of the CISA Review Manual 2006 the CISA Review
Questions, Answers & Explanations CD-ROM 2006. Please note that the
cost of the CISA exam is not included in your tuition fee."

SEC506-200604: Securing Unix/Linux
David Goldsmith, James Philput & Miles Stevenson, SANS System
  Administrators and Course Instructors:
"PC versus Mac. Vi versus Emacs. Unix versus Windows. These are some
of the "heated debates" computer users and administrators have amongst
themselves arguing the pros and cons of their platform, application
or operating system. Realistically, there is no perfect operating
system. All operating systems must be secured to minimize and reduce
the potential opportunity for an attacker to take control of your
computer, its resources and its data. This course focuses on the Unix
operating systems and what you can and should do to secure them."
  David Goldsmith

"This course provides a basis upon which to build a comprehensive
security policy for a *nix environment. You will learn not just what
to do to secure a system, but why it should be done. This will help
you to evaluate and respond to new threats as they come." James
  Philput

"It's more than just tools and technologies which change rapidly over
time. The technical foundations and principles behind the technology
are what build your roadmap to navigate the future. The Unix/Linux
world changes almost every day and this course gives you the arsenal
you need to stay in control." Miles Stevenson

SEC508-200604: System Forensics, Investigation & Response
Michael Murr, Course Instructor:
"Computers are an integral part of every day life. Computer forensics
is an integral part of almost every investigation, both in law
enforcement and in private industry. Computer forensics is the
acquisition, preservation, analysis, and presentation of computer
related evidence. Being able to effectively perform these four
functions places you in a very small group of professionals worldwide.

"Taking Security 508 as a SANSHome class is even better than
attending a live training event. You'll spend 12 sessions going over
the material at your own pace. You will have time to digest the
material, and time to relate what you learn to your work environment.
After you've mastered the basics, we'll go beyond what's contained in
the books. We'll relate course material to current events in the real
world and even to situations you may be in. Rather than focusing on
specific tools, you'll learn concepts, techniques, and methodologies
to allow you to effectively acquire, preserve, analyze, and present
  computer related evidence."

SEC601-200606: Reverse-Engineering Malware - Hands On
Lenny Zeltser, Course Author & Instructor:
"Let me begin by telling you a little about myself. I am the
Information Security Practice Leader at Gemini Systems, a premier IT
consulting firm headquartered in New York. I also volunteer as an
incident handler at the SANS Internet Storm Center and have
co-authored several security books. In addition to holding the CISSP
certification, I am one of five individuals who have earned the GIAC
Security Expert (GSE) designation. You can find more information about
my career, research and projects at http://www.zeltser.com.

"I created Reverse Engineering Malware, which focuses on analyzing
malicious software, to help defenders be more effective at protecting
systems against viruses, worms, and trojans. I believe understanding
the inner-workings of malware is critical to knowing how to design
your defense infrastructure and how to respond to malware infections.
Hands-on workshop exercises are also an essential part of this course
and will give you a chance to apply reverse-engineering techniques by
examining malicious code in a carefully-controlled environment."

Many students have expressed their appreciation for having a live
instructor and being able to interact with other students all while
attending class from home. SANSHome allows you to get the training you
need in the evenings and without traveling, so you don't have to spend
time away from work or your family. Even if you find you must miss a
webcast, you can rest easy knowing that it is archived for you to access
later. This is top-quality training combined with flexibility you won't
find anywhere else!

Full course details and registration forms can be found on the SANS
website (http://www.sans.org/athome). Keep in mind that discounts are
available for early registrations, so reserve your space now!

We look forward to having you in class!
