Correlating and searching logs manually for information on security
events was tiresome and time consuming. A supervising IT analyst in San
Bernardino Superior Court had enough and began searching for an event
management tool that would streamline the reporting process. He found a
solution that provided so many additional services that he reevaluated
his original criteria.

Kevin Arden: Kevin Arden is a supervising analyst in the IT department
for the Superior Court of California, County of San Bernardino. He
manages approximately 1,200 desktops and 35 Windows and UNIX servers.
He has been with the Courts for nearly 9 years. His daily
responsibilities are to oversee the servers, desktops, printers and the
Court's network infrastructure, as well as provide some Internet and
intranet support. Its court system covers 20,105 square miles and
nearly 100 cities and towns. The IT department supports over 15 court
locations with over 800 employees across the county.

Alan Paller: Alan is the Director of Research for the SANS Institute,
responsible for overseeing all research projects ranging from the SANS
Step-by-Step guides to the SANS digests to the Top Twenty Internet
Security Threats. He the founder of the CIO Institute, and earned his
degrees in Computer Science and Engineering from Cornell and MIT. Alan

In today's business environment, more types of access are being
provisioned into networks. Traditional VPN technology, as well as
Web-based access and internal user access, has created a number of
different ingress/egress points that need to be secured. With branch
office and remote location connections, bandwidth and availability can
be impacted, as can the overall ability to secure the environment. In
this webcast, we'll discuss the current technologies used for remote
access and remote user security, as well as newer advancements in
security gateway technology.

Part 1, The Mobile User - Secure Access from Anywhere (even the Home
PC!), may be found at
https://www.sans.org/webcasts/show.php?webcastid=90700

Dave Shackleford, Senior Security Architect: Dave Shackleford is the
Manager of Solution Engineering for Vigilar in Atlanta, providing
information security consulting services to business and government
clients. Dave has been involved in security for close to 10 years,
holding a number of technical and managerial positions. Dave is also the
co-author of "Hands-On Information Security" from Thomson Course
Technology.
