From: Secunia Security Advisories (sec-advsecunia.com)
Date: Tue Apr 01 2003 - 03:29:28 CST

TITLE:
SAP DB insecure file permissions

READ ONLINE:
http://www.secunia.com/advisories/8469/

CRITICAL:
Less critical

IMPACT:
Privilege escalation, Manipulation of data

WHERE:
Local system

SOFTWARE:
SAP DB 7.x

DESCRIPTION:
SAP DB installs different executables with insecure permissions. This
allows anyone to manipulate those files.

"dbmsrv" and "lserver" are installed with 777 permission, allowing
anyone to write data to those files, this could be exploited to
elevate privileges.

This has been confirmed in version 7.4

SOLUTION:
A workaround could be to chmod 755 all executables. We recommend that
you test this in a non-production environment first.

The vendor recommend that only trusted users have access to the
system running SAP DB.
