From: Secunia Security Advisories (sec-advsecunia.com)
Date: Tue Jan 13 2004 - 06:45:42 CST

TITLE:
Accipiter AdManager Directory Traversal Vulnerability

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA10600

VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://www.secunia.com/advisories/10600/

CRITICAL:
Moderately critical

IMPACT:
Exposure of system information, Exposure of sensitive information

WHERE:
From remote

SOFTWARE:
Accipiter AdManager 6.x
Accipiter AdManager 7.x

DESCRIPTION:
Mark Bassett has identified a vulnerability in AdManager, allowing
malicious people to gain knowledge of sensitive information.

The problem is that AdManager fails to detect directory traversal
attempts using the URL encoded representation of the "../" character
sequence ("%2e%2e%5c"). This can be exploited to view files outside
the web root.

SOLUTION:
The vendor recommends that AdManager runs as a less privileged user,
which can only access files associated with the ad system.

The vendor furthermore reports that the vulnerability will be fixed
in the next major release of AdManager.

PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY:
