Vulnerability

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA12362

VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/12362/

CRITICAL:
Highly critical

IMPACT:
System access

WHERE:
From remote

SOFTWARE:
Network Security Services (NSS) 3.x
http://secunia.com/product/3173/

DESCRIPTION:
ISS X-Force has reported a vulnerability in the NSS library, which
can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable
system.

The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error within the
parsing of records during SSLv2 connection negotiation. This can be
exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow by sending a
specially crafted client hello message with an overly long record.

Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code with the
privileges of an application linked to the vulnerable library.

SOLUTION:
An updated version of the NSS library is available:
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/security/nss/releases/NSS_3_9_2_RTM

PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY:
Mark Dowd, ISS X-Force.
