DESCRIPTION:
Jian Hui Wang has reported a weakness in Neoteris IVE, which can be
exploited by malicious people to potentially brute force a user's
password.
The problem is that a person is forwarded directly to the
"changepassword.cgi" CGI script when attempting to log in with a
valid username to which the password is expired.
Since there is no restriction on the amount of retries when
attempting to change the user's password, a malicious person may be
able to guess the old password and thereby gain access after setting
a new password.
Successful exploitation requires knowledge of a valid username with
an expired password. Also, the IVE product has to be configured with
a LDAP or NT domain authentication server.
SOLUTION:
Apply patch (see the vendor's advisory).
