TITLE:
Kreed Format String and Denial of Service Vulnerabilities

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA13361

VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/13361/

CRITICAL:
Highly critical

IMPACT:
DoS, System access

WHERE:
From remote

SOFTWARE:
Kreed 1.x
http://secunia.com/product/4351/

DESCRIPTION:
Luigi Auriemma has reported some vulnerabilities in Kreed, which can
be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service)
and potentially compromise a vulnerable system.

1) A format string error in the handling of nicknames and messages
can potentially be exploited to execute arbitrary code by sending a
specially crafted message or joining with a specially crafted
nickname on the server.

2) An error in the communication handling can be exploited to crash a
vulnerable server by sending an UDP datagram of 1401 bytes or more.

3) A problem in the error handling when dealing with overly long
nicknames and model types can be exploited to cause a vulnerable
server to freeze.

The vulnerabilities have been reported in version 1.05. Other
versions may also be affected.

SOLUTION:
Host games on a trusted network only.
