SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:

VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/13453/

CRITICAL:
Moderately critical

IMPACT:
System access

WHERE:
From local network

SOFTWARE:
Samba 2.x
http://secunia.com/product/1271/
Samba 3.x
http://secunia.com/product/2999/

DESCRIPTION:
iDEFENSE has reported a vulnerability in Samba, which can be
exploited by malicious users to compromise a vulnerable system.

The vulnerability is caused due to an integer overflow within smbd
when handling security descriptors. This can be exploited to cause a
heap-based buffer overflow by requesting an extremely large amount of
security descriptors.

Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code, but
requires that the user has proper credentials to access a share.

The vulnerability affects versions 2.x and 3.0.x up to and including
version 3.0.9.

SOLUTION:
Apply patch for Samba 3.0.9:
http://us1.samba.org/samba/ftp/patches/security/samba-3.0.9-CAN-2004-1154.patch
