TITLE:
Netgear FVS318 Two Vulnerabilities

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA13787

VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/13787/

CRITICAL:
Less critical

IMPACT:
Security Bypass, Cross Site Scripting

WHERE:
From remote

OPERATING SYSTEM:
Netgear FVS318
http://secunia.com/product/368/

DESCRIPTION:
Paul Kurczaba has reported two vulnerabilities in Netgear FVS318,
which can be exploited by malicious people to bypass certain security
restrictions and conduct script insertion attacks.

1) The problem is that an URL containing hex encoded characters may
bypass an URL filter setup by the administrator.

2) Input passed to an URL blocked by an URL filter is not properly
sanitised before being used. This can be exploited to execute
arbitrary HTML and script code in an administrator's browser session
in context of an affected site when the security log is viewed.

The vulnerabilities have been reported in firmware version 2.4. Other
versions may also be affected.

SOLUTION:
1) Use another product for filtering access to URLs.
2) Do not view the security log in a web browser.

PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY:
Paul Kurczaba, SecuriNews.
