TITLE:
OpenServer auditsh/atcronsh/termsh Buffer Overflow Vulnerabilities
SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA14892
VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/14892/
CRITICAL:
Less critical
IMPACT:
Privilege escalation
WHERE:
Local system
OPERATING SYSTEM:
SCO OpenServer 5.x
http://secunia.com/product/137/
DESCRIPTION:
Joel Soderberg and Christer Oberg have reported some vulnerabilities
in SCO OpenServer, which potentially can be exploited by malicious,
local users to gain escalated privileges.
The vulnerabilities are caused due to boundary errors within the
auditsh, atcronsh, and termsh programs when handling the HOME
environment variable. This can be exploited to cause a buffer
overflow via an overly long string in the HOME environment variable.
SOLUTION:
Apply patches.
