TITLE:
Comdev News Publisher Cross-Site Scripting and PHP Code Execution

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA15864

VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/15864/

CRITICAL:
Moderately critical

IMPACT:
Cross Site Scripting, System access

WHERE:
From remote

SOFTWARE:
Comdev News Publisher 3.x
http://secunia.com/product/5304/

DESCRIPTION:
basher13 has reported two vulnerabilities in Comdev News Publisher,
which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct cross-site
scripting attacks and by malicious users to compromise a vulnerable
system.

1) Input passed to the "s_type" parameter in "index.php" isn't
properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be
exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in an
administrator's browser session in context of an affected site.

2) An input validation error in the administration section can be
exploited to inject arbitrary PHP code in an administration panel.

Successful exploitation requires administrative privileges.

The vulnerabilities have been reported in version 3.1. Other versions
may also be affected.

SOLUTION:
Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised.
