TITLE:
Jaws "path" File Inclusion and XML-RPC PHP Code Execution
SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA15922
VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/15922/
CRITICAL:
Highly critical
IMPACT:
System access
WHERE:
From remote
SOFTWARE:
Jaws 0.x
http://secunia.com/product/5173/
DESCRIPTION:
Two vulnerabilities have been reported in Jaws, which can be
exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system.
1) Input passed to the "path" parameter in "BlogModel.php" isn't
properly verified, before it is used to include files. This can be
exploited to include arbitrary files from external and local
resources.
Successful exploitation requires that "register_globals" is enabled.
The vulnerability has been confirmed in version 0.5.2. Other versions
may also be affected.
2) An input validation error in the XML-RPC library can be exploited
to execute arbitrary PHP code via a specially crafted XML document.
For more information:
SA15852
The vulnerability has been reported in versions prior to 0.5.2.
SOLUTION:
1) Set "register_globals" to "Off" or edit the source code to ensure
that input is properly sanitised.
2) Update to version 0.5.2.
