TITLE:
Jax Guestbook Cross-Site Scripting and Information Disclosure
SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA16337
VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/16337/
CRITICAL:
Less critical
IMPACT:
Cross Site Scripting, Exposure of sensitive information
WHERE:
From remote
SOFTWARE:
Jax Guestbook 3.x
http://secunia.com/product/5494/
DESCRIPTION:
Lostmon has discovered some vulnerabilities in Jax Guestbook, which
can be exploited by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting
attacks or disclose certain sensitive information.
1) Input passed to the "language", "gmt_ofs" and "page" parameters
isn't properly sanitised before being returned to users. This can be
exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's
browser session in context of a vulnerable site.
2) Accessing the "guestbook" and "guestbook_ips2block" files directly
discloses certain sensitive information (e.g. IP addresses of users
who have posted ).
The vulnerabilities have been confirmed in version 3.3 and have also
been reported in versions 3.1 and 3.31. Other versions may also be
affected.
SOLUTION:
Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised. Use
a database instead of CSV files to store guestbook data.
