TITLE:
WEB//NEWS SQL Injection Vulnerabilities
SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA16727
VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/16727/
CRITICAL:
Moderately critical
IMPACT:
Manipulation of data, Exposure of system information
WHERE:
From remote
SOFTWARE:
WEB//NEWS 1.x
http://secunia.com/product/5677/
DESCRIPTION:
Robin Verton has discovered some vulnerabilities in WEB//NEWS, which
can be exploited by malicious people to conduct SQL injection
attacks.
Input passed to the "wn_userpw" parameter in "modules/startup.php",
the "cat", "id" and "stof parameters in "include_this/news.php" and
the "id" parameter in "print.php" isn't properly sanitised before
being used in a SQL query. This can be exploited to manipulate SQL
queries by injecting arbitrary SQL code.
It is also possible to disclose the full path to certain scripts by
accessing them directly.
The vulnerabilities have been confirmed in version 1.4. Other
versions may also be affected.
SOLUTION:
Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised.
