From: Secunia Security Advisories (sec-advsecunia.com)
Date: Thu Oct 06 2005 - 03:51:08 CDT

TITLE:
Tellme Cross-Site Scripting and "whois" Command Line Option Injection

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA17078

VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/17078/

CRITICAL:
Less critical

IMPACT:
Cross Site Scripting, Exposure of system information

WHERE:
From remote

SOFTWARE:
Tellme 1.x
http://secunia.com/product/5808/

DESCRIPTION:
Donnie Werner has reported two vulnerabilities in Tellme, which can
be exploited by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting
attacks or disclose certain system information.

1) Input passed to the "q_IP" and "q_Host" parameters isn't properly
sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be exploited to
execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's browser session in
context of an affected site.

2) Input passed to the "q_Host" parameter isn't properly sanitised
before being used as command line to "whois". This can be exploited
to pass addition command line options to "whois" e.g. to reveal the
installed version.

The vulnerability has been reported in version 1.2. Prior versions
may also be affected.

SOLUTION:
Update to version 1.3.
