TITLE:
Mambo Pearl For Mambo Module File Inclusion Vulnerabilities

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:

VERIFY ADVISORY:

CRITICAL:
Highly critical

IMPACT:
System access

WHERE:
From remote

SOFTWARE:
Pearl For Mambo 1.x (module for Mambo)
http://secunia.com/product/10663/

DESCRIPTION:
Kw3[R]Ln has discovered some vulnerabilities in the Pearl For Mambo
module for Mambo, which can be exploited by malicious people to
compromise a vulnerable system.

Input passed to the "GlobalSettings[templatesDirectory]" parameter in
various scripts in the "includes" directory isn't properly verified,
before it is used to include files. This can be exploited to include
arbitrary files from external and local resources.

The following scripts are affected:
* adminSensored.php
* adminBoards.php
* adminAttachments.php
* adminAvatars.php
* adminBackupdatabase.php
* adminBanned.php
* adminForums.php
* adminPolls.php
* adminSmileys.php
* poll.php
* move.php

Successful exploitation requires that "register_globals" is enabled.

The vulnerabilities have been confirmed in version 1.6. Other
versions may also be affected.

SOLUTION:
Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly verified.

Set "register_globals" to "Off".

Restrict web access to the "includes" directory (e.g. with a
.htaccess file).
