DESCRIPTION:
Nanika has reported a vulnerability in Microsoft Excel, which
potentially can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a
user's system.
The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error when handling
overly long styles. This can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow
by tricking a user into opening a specially crafted spreadsheet.
Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code, but
requires that the user chooses to repair the document (Excel
2002/2003) or clicks the "Style" option (Excel 2000).
NOTE: The vulnerability only affects certain Asian language versions
(e.g. Chinese) of the product.
SOLUTION:
Do not open untrusted office documents.
PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY:
Nanika
