TITLE:
OpenBase SQL "openexec" Privilege Escalation Vulnerability

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA22742

VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/22742/

CRITICAL:
Less critical

IMPACT:
Privilege escalation

WHERE:
Local system

SOFTWARE:
OpenBase SQL 10.x
http://secunia.com/product/12511/

DESCRIPTION:
Kevin Finisterre has reported two vulnerabilities in OpenBase SQL,
which can be exploited by malicious, local users to perform actions
with escalated privileges.

1) An error exists in /Library/OpenBase/bin/openexec as various
programs are invoked without an absolute pathname and has the
"setuid" bit set. This can be exploited to perform certain actions
with "root" privileges.

2) The temporary file "/tmp/output" is created insecurely by
/Library/OpenBase/bin/openexec. This can be exploited to create
arbitrary root-owned, world-writable files via symlink attacks.

The vulnerabilities are reported in version 10.0. Other versions may
also be affected.

SOLUTION:
The vulnerabilities are reportedly fixed in version 10.0.1.
