SOFTWARE:
Mutt 1.4.x
http://secunia.com/product/1305/
http://secunia.com/product//
DESCRIPTION:
A vulnerability has been reported in mutt, which potentially can be
exploited by malicious, local users to gain escalated privileges.
A boundary error in the "mutt_gecos_name()" function when processing
"&" characters in the GECOS field can be exploited to cause a buffer
overflow during alias expansion.
Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code with
another user's privileges, but requires that the malicious user has a
specially crafted realname and exists in the target user's alias file.
SOLUTION:
Update to version 1.4.2.3.
