TITLE:
DGNews Cross-Site Scripting and SQL Injection Vulnerabilities
SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA25438
VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/25438/
CRITICAL:
Moderately critical
IMPACT:
Cross Site Scripting, Manipulation of data
WHERE:
From remote
SOFTWARE:
DGNews 2.x
http://secunia.com/product/14361/
DESCRIPTION:
Jesper Jurcenoks has reported two vulnerabilities in DGNews, which
can be exploited by malicious people to conduct cross-site scripting
and SQL injection attacks.
1) Input passed to the "copyright" parameter in footer.php is not
properly sanitised before being returned to the user. This can be
exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a user's
browser session in context of an affected site.
2) Input passed to the "catid" parameter in news.php is not properly
sanitised before being used in an SQL query. This can be exploited to
manipulate SQL queries by injecting arbitrary SQL code.
Successful exploitation requires that "magic_quotes_gpc" is
disabled.
The vulnerabilities are reported in version 2.1. Other versions may
also be affected.
SOLUTION:
Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised.
