CRITICAL:

SOFTWARE:
mtr 0.x
http://secunia.com/product/4376/

DESCRIPTION:
Adam Zabrocki has discovered a vulnerability in Mtr, which
potentially can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a
user's system.

The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error within the
"split_redraw()" function in split.c. This can be exploited to cause
a stack-based buffer overflow via a specially crafted resolved
hostname.

Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code, but
requires that the attacker controls the DNS server used by the
victim, and that the "-p" (or "--split") command line option is
used.

The vulnerability is confirmed in version 0.72. Prior versions may
also be affected.

SOLUTION:
Update to version 0.73.
