TITLE:
Drupal ImageField Module File Upload and Script Insertion

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:

CRITICAL:
Moderately critical

IMPACT:
System access

WHERE:
From remote

SOFTWARE:
Drupal ImageField Module 5.x
http://secunia.com/advisories/product/21281/

DESCRIPTION:
Some vulnerabilities have been discovered in the ImageField module
for Drupal, which can be exploited by malicious users to conduct
script insertion attacks and compromise a vulnerable system.

1) The application does not properly verify the types of uploaded
images associated with content type fields. This can be exploited to
upload files with arbitrary extensions (e.g. pht) and execute
arbitrary PHP code on the server.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability requires a certain
server configuration (e.g. an Apache server with the "mod_mime"
module installed) and requires the "administer content types"
permission.

2) Input passed to the "description" parameter in index.php (when "q"
is set to "admin/contents/types/[TYPE NAME]/fields/[FIELD NAME]") is
not properly sanitised before being used. This can be exploited to
insert arbitrary HTML and script code, which will be executed in a
user's browser session in the context of an affected site when the
malicious type is viewed.

These vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 5.x-2.2. Other
versions may also be affected.

SOLUTION:
Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised and
verified.
