TITLE:
Ninja Designs Mailist Security Issue and Vulnerability

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:

VERIFY ADVISORY:

CRITICAL:
Moderately critical

IMPACT:
Exposure of system information, Exposure of sensitive information

WHERE:
From remote

SOFTWARE:
Ninja Designs Mailist 3.x
http://secunia.com/advisories/product/21342/

DESCRIPTION:
SirGod has discovered a security issue and a vulnerability in Ninja
Designs Mailist, which can be exploited by malicious people to
disclose sensitive information.

1) The application stores backup files with insecure permissions
inside the web root. This can be exploited to gain knowledge of
sensitive information (e.g. e-mail addresses) by requesting the
backup files directly.

2) Input passed to the "load" parameter in send.php is not properly
verified before being used to include files. This can be exploited to
include arbitrary files from local resources via directory traversal
attacks and URL-encoded NULL bytes.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability requires that
"register_globals" is enabled and "magic_quotes_gpc" is disabled.

These vulnerabilities are confirmed in version 3.0. Other versions
may also be affected.

SOLUTION:
Restrict access to the "backups/" directory (e.g. using a ".htaccess"
file).
Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly verified.
