TITLE:
Jetty Information Disclosure and Cross-Site Scripting

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA34975

VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/34975/

DESCRIPTION:
Some vulnerabilities have been reported in Jetty, which can be
exploited by malicious people to disclose sensitive information or
conduct cross-site scripting attacks.

1) A vulnerability is caused due to an input validation error within
the HTTP server when processing HTTP requests. This can be exploited
to access files outside of the web application or document tree.

Successful exploitation requires usage of the DefaultServlet with
support for aliases enabled or usage of the ResourceHandler class to
serve static content. UNIX system are only vulnerable if a directory
with a name ending with the character "?" exists in the webapp or
docroot.

2) Input passed via the URL is not properly sanitised before being
returned to the user when displaying a web directory listing. This
can be exploited to execute arbitrary HTML and script code in a
user's browser session in context of an affected site.

The vulnerabilities are reported in versions 6.1.16 and prior.

SOLUTION:
Update to version 6.1.17.
