TITLE:
AEF SQL Injection and Information Disclosure
SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA35646
VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/35646/
DESCRIPTION:
A vulnerability and a security issue have been discovered in AEF,
which can be exploited by malicious users to disclose certain system
information or to conduct SQL injection attacks.
1) Input passed via the filename when uploading attachments is not
properly sanitised before being used in an SQL query. This can be
exploited to manipulate SQL queries by injecting arbitrary SQL code.
Successful exploitation requires that "magic_quotes_gpc" is
disabled.
2) Input passed via the "avatargalfile" parameter when changing the
avatar image is not properly verified before an error message is
returned. This can be exploited to determine the existence of files
on the system via directory traversal attacks.
The vulnerability and the security issue are confirmed in version
1.0.8. Other versions may also be affected.
SOLUTION:
Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised.
Grant only trusted users access to affected systems.
