TITLE:
GEM Engine Multiple Vulnerabilities

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA36273

VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/36273/

DESCRIPTION:
Luigi Auriemma has reported some vulnerabilities in GEM Engine, which
can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of
Service) or to potentially compromise an application using the
engine.

1) A NULL-pointer dereference error can be exploited to crash an
affected server via an incomplete packet sent to TCP port 3210.

2) An error when processing invalid packets can be exploited to
trigger various assertions and terminate the server.

3) An error when processing an unspecified packet type can be
exploited to corrupt memory via a specially crafted TCP packet sent
to port 3210.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may allow execution of
arbitrary code.

SOLUTION:
Host games only in a trusted network environment.
