TITLE:
IBM Lotus Notes RSS Widget Internet Zone Security Bypass

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA36813

VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/36813/

DESCRIPTION:
Marc Ruef has reported a vulnerability in IBM Lotus Notes, which can
be exploited by malicious people to bypass certain security
restrictions.

The vulnerability is caused due to an error in the RSS widget when
processing feed content. This can be exploited to potentially open
arbitrary HTML files in an Internet Explorer local zone context when
previewing a feed.

Successful exploitation requires that a user using Lotus Notes under
a "Standard Configuration" is tricked into subscribing to a malicious
RSS feed.

The vulnerability is reported in versions 8.0 and 8.5. Other versions
may also be affected.

SOLUTION:
Obtain a patch by opening a service request with IBM Support.

The vulnerability will also be fixed in an upcoming 8.5.1 version.
