Honeynets are nothing more then one type of honeypot, which means
its is a technology. As such, anyone is more then welcome to
do anything they want with that technology. The purpose of the
Honeynet Alliance is to bring together organizations actively involved
in Honeynet research. We hope to then share these findings with the
security community. The reason we focus on organizations is
Honeynets are horribly time consuming and resource intensive, making
them difficult for an individual to manage.
If anyone wants to start their independent Honeynet research organizations,
they are more then welcome to. I feel the Honeynet Research Alliance
is an excellent forum for such groups to share research and findings,
however no one has to join or work with the Alliance.
If anyone has any question, concerns, or suggestions, please feel free
to contact me directly.
Thanks!
