*** shameless product plug ***
If you don't want to justify the expense of HP OV, Cisco does support the
IDS sensors and the IDS features of their firewall's and IDS capable routers
in Cisco Secure Policy Manager. Keep in mind, I've never seen this, but the
product reps tells me it works great :)

Then who is second????
I don't know how the NetRanger stacks up on the list but it has been a
great tool for my security infrastructure. The only blaringly apparent
drawback is the requirement of HP OpenView to run it. Lots of moolah....
I can't complain about the product or support for it though... Ends up being
a pretty slick netmgmt/security/application setup in the end though...
Makes for a great justification for one very nice Sun desktop!!!!

Thanks (especially JCL), and now another question (I should have asked it
the first time): What are the major top-3 players in the commercial IDS
arena?
I did some research myself and wonder if anyone could correct it (no. 1
being the best: making the most sales):
1) Internet Security Systems with ISS RealSecure
3) NFR Security with Network Flight Recorder IDS + LRD
Can you also comment on it; which is technically most sophisticated? Any
experience on it? Actually, I'm looking for info similar to
http://www.gocsi.com/roundtable.htm but only more recent.
TIA
